Agency History

The agency history dates back to 1936. John Clower, a former Farm Bureau agent, and his wife, Judy Clower, purchased the agency, then known as the Doc Jones Insurance Agency in 1980. After purchasing three other agencies, adding additional companies, agents and staff the agency name was changed to Southeast Insurance Associates, Inc., to reflect the larger service area.

As a result of the expanding operation, satellite offices were opened in Dumas, Dermott, Crossett and Pine Bluff, and the Agency marketed its products throughout the entire state of Arkansas.

In 2004 the decision was made to sell the commercial and majority of the personal lines book of business. Specialty auto, individual life and health business was retained, and the agency’s name was changed to Select 1, Inc., conveying a first class operation and customer choice. The variety of companies represented afford the Select 1 customer a better choice. Select 1 has all the major companies and others that are not readily available everywhere. The new strategy involves a more streamlined, high-tech approach, focused on auto, life and health insurance. Quick response, point of sale products simplify and improve the insurance sales process. The niche marketing provides a higher service capability in the quoting, placing and servicing of accounts. The Select 1 staff has made a commitment to offer its customers the best rates and friendly, competent service.

Who knows what the future will bring? More change, that’s for sure. Right now, John Clower, Shirley Watson and Waverland Watson, experienced, licensed agents, pledge to always serve the needs of their customers above all else. The Select 1 agency says, “We know our customers have a choice, and we appreciate the fact that they have “Select”ed us to be their agency.
